Founding Philosophy
Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music was established on April 1, 1966, with the aim of creating a distinctive cultural sphere spanning East and West while contributing to the development of culture in its home of Aichi Prefecture, located in the center of the Chubu Region, which is renowned for its industrial economy. The University’s Graduate School was founded four years later, on April 1, 1970, to facilitate the application of artistic knowledge and achievements at a more advanced level, which will contribute to the betterment of culture and society.On April 1, 2009, the Graduate School began to offer a Doctor Course, in addition to the existing Master Course.
The University’s objectives since its founding are “the cultivation of artistic creativity on the basis of art-related studies, along with studies of applied art, to contribute to the advancement of culture.”
Against the backdrop of drastic changes in the circumstances surrounding education—higher education in particular—genres of art covered by the University in its research and education activities have become increasingly diversified and highly integrated. At the same time, social needs regarding universities has also changed significantly. Based on its more than 40 years’ experience, the University seeks its future as an advanced and unique educational institution, fostering still more creative human resources as bearers of the 21st century, while also remaining able to respond appropriately to the needs of the times and society.
